the cottage
Top of Hope Farm was built in 1690 and has since been beautifully restored retaining its true historical character contrasting to its more contemporary interiors. Its white wash walls, stunning old beams and comfortable furnishings make for a perfect place to stay. The cottage has three double bedrooms and sleeps three couples sharing with plenty of living space too.
Ground floor
The front door opens to a flagstone entrance hall/dining room with exposed beams, original cast-iron range set below a sandstone mantle. The entrance hall has a dining table and open fireplace, perfect for entertaining. The kitchen and dining area have exposed beams, open fire with painted oak surround and a second dining/breakfast table. The kitchen has recently been refurbished with a new electric Aga cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and ceramic Belfast sink.
Accessed off the hallway, the utility room provides a ground floor WC, Belfast sink, washing machine, boot and coat store. The spacious lounge features an open stone fireplace, wooden floors, comfy sofas and chairs. Off the lounge is a second sitting room with a large TV entertainment cabinet with DVD and CD players. From the TV lounge there is a second staircase with a doorway that leads to the third bedroom.
Second floor
The second floor is accessed via a doorway from the entrance hall, the stairs lead to a small landing. On the second floor are three double bedrooms with bedside views over the hills. The master bedroom has a huge ‘A’ frame beam, limed wooden floors and a wall of panelled cupboards. The third double bedroom has its’ own en-suite shower and WC. A second staircase leads off the bedroom to the TV lounge below. The main bathroom has timber wainscoting, large bath, WC and basin.
Outside
The cottage is accessed via its own driveway and has ample parking for three cars. It has a paved seating area, BBQ, walled garden (lawn games are available), paddock, log and coal store.
Children are very welcome and the house itself is well suited to all ages. We have a cupboard full of toys and some books too plus a stair gate on the main stair way. However, families with small children please note that our beds are all king size and we do not provide cots or small beds.
In the warmer months, the gardens are perfect for outdoor games and we have several tables and chair spots to choose from. The garage sheds also contain a portable fire pit and parasols for the garden furniture.
