FOOD & DRINK
These are a few of our favourite places because they combine great atmosphere with good food. We’d recommend that you book to make sure you get a table.
The George, Alstonefield - The village pub is a
short stagger from the cottage and has a very good menu, winning
several awards recently for its locally sourced and imaginative
menu and farm shop. It is situated in the heart of the village,
has a roaring fire in the winter and plenty of tables outside
for the warmer months.

Peak District Farm Shop of Stanshope is seconds away from the
cottage. The shop is the inspiration of two farming families
working in the Peak District. They sell their own traditionally
reared and rare breed meats via the shop, as well as doing local
deliveries to your door.

The Peacock in Bakewell - Bakewell, is a small luxury hotel
located in the famous Peak District. Built in 1652 and
steeped in history it has been a hotel since 1820. Awarded 2
rosettes and aspiring to 3, with the creative talents of Dan
Smith, delicious, full flavour food is served with artistic
flair.

The Devonshire Arms, Beeley - Devonshire
All the charm and character of an historic inn with welcoming
bar with low oak beams, open fires, nooks and crannies, brought
right up to date with contemporary brasserie.

David Mellor Design Museum in Hathersage, Sheffield is just a 25
minute drive away. The Museum displays the best of modern
design, from teaspoons to traffic lights, and its purpose
designed café provides a beautiful, unusual environment in which
to relax. The café serves delicious lunches as well as
specialist teas, coffee and an irresistible selection of home
made cakes.

Fish & Chips, Longnor Market Place - you can eat inside but they only have a
few tables so try and book 01298 83317 (Closed Monday,
Wednesdays and Sunday).
Hartington Market Square - sit beside the duck pond and eat
straight from the fish and chip van (evenings only).
SIMPLE THINGS TO DO
Milldale
A simple short walk to stretch your legs and get a taste for the
area. Go down past the church and take the footpath on your
right across the fields. This will take you down to Milldale,
you'll have some stunning views over the Dovedale valley on the
way. Milldale has a stone bridge over the River Dove and a small
tea shop. If you take some bread you can feed the ducks.
Ilam Hall and Village
Ilam is nestled below rolling hills and has a woodland walk
along the river. The hall has a National Trust tearoom and shop.
Lots of stunning walks around the hills above Ilam.
Tissington Hall and Village
Tissington Hall is a stunning Jacobean Manor house owned by the
Fitzherbert family. The house is only open to the public by
arrangement. Tissington Village is a managed estate famous for
its well dressings held in May. The village has an excellent
tearoom and is a great place to wander around, the church and

Dovedale
From Milldale the down-stream valley walk will take you to
Thorpe and Ilam. This can be busy on warm weekends and holidays.
The up-stream walk takes you to Hartington, its less popular but
a very beautiful river valley walk.

Cycling
Cycle hire is available on the Manifold Trial a stunning river valley, call Brown End Farm at Waterhouses on 01538308313 or on the Tissington Trail,
an old railway route through the hills, you can hire bikes in Ashbourne 01335343156.
